Using Questioning Strategies to Improve Instruction, Session Two: Designing and Using Questioning Strategies

Try your hand at designing questioning strategies! This workshop explores the relationships between questioning and thinking and encourages you to reflect on your own questioning practices. Session One is a pre-requisite for attending this workshop.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

Goal

The goal of this workhsop is to encourage participants to reflect on their own questioning practices, to design new classroom questioning strategies that improve cognition, and to consider relevant research that supports these instructional practices.

Objectives

By the end of Session Two, participants will be able to:

  1. Review and discuss concepts and learning from Session One;
  2. Report on their experiences during the interim period between sessions in trying out questioning strategies;
  3. Discuss the relationship of questioning strategies to neural branching and brain research;
  4. Design new questioning strategies using a common stimulus; and
  5. Suggest ways for expanding the use of questioning strategies.
