Managing the ESL Multilevel Class, Session 2, Effective Classroom Strategies

How do you juggle working with different groups of many different proficiency levels in the same classroom? This workshop develops teachers' skills in managing a multilevel class effectively.

Goal

The goal of this workshop is to develop teachers' knowledge and skills in managing the adult ESL multilevel class.

Objectives

By the end of Session 2, participants will be able to

• Identify underlying principles of learner-centered management;
• Design activities for cross-ability groups;
• Design whole-group closing activities;
• Identify and use resources within the class and from the community to manage and facilitate a multilevel class;
• Complete and review a lesson plan for a multilevel class; and
• Identify solutions to the challenges posed by the dynamics of the multilevel class.
