Mentoring for Adult Education Instructors

Session One: What You Need to Know

Are you interested in mentoring new teachers or those who want to learn new skills? In this session, you will learn about the various mentoring stages and explore skills and characteristics needed to be successful at each stage. This workshop is a pre-requisite to Session Two.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

Goal

The goal of this session is to give prospective mentors an overview of mentoring, including necessary qualities and skills of mentors as well as important aspects and stages of the mentoring process.

Objectives

By the end of Session One, participants will be able to:

  1. Define mentoring;
  2. Identify the principles of mentoring;
  3. List mentor skills;
  4. Identify strategies for mentor/mentee matching;
  5. List the characteristics of each stage of mentoring; and
  6. Relate adult learning theory to mentoring.
