Creating an Agency Professional Development Plan, Session 2: Evaluating Results

This is the second of two, 3-hour sessions on creating a site-based professional development plan. Session 1 explores strategies for establishing a learning community among staff; reviews standards for effective professional development; and outlines the steps in creating a professional development plan. It also provides strategies and tools for assessing the professional development needs of staff.

Session 2 provides an in-depth look at effective models of professional development as well as strategies for evaluating professional development at five different levels.

GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

Goal

The goal of Session 2 is to provide participants with strategies and tools for creating an agency professional development plan. Session 2 also provides an overview of models of sustained professional development as well as levels of evaluation of professional development.

Objectives

By the end of Session 2, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe formats and models of sustained PD and the benefits of each model;
  2. Identify five levels of evaluation of PD and determine appropriate strategies for use at each level; and
  3. Develop a timeline for working with staff to create an agency PD plan.
