Creating a Cooperative Climate

Goal: To develop skills in creating a cooperative climate by using class-building and team-building activities.

Objectives: Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the underlying principles of establishing a cooperative climate
  • Identify class building activities, ways of establishing teams, team-building activities, and classroom management strategies
  • Develop class-building activities
  • Develop team-building activities

Key Components of Cooperative Learning

Goal: To develop skill in implementing key components of cooperative learning.

Objectives: Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Reorganize the underlying principles of the key components of cooperative learning
  • Identify key components of cooperative learning
  • Determine heterogeneous groupings
  • Identify cooperative skills
  • Determine appropriate language and behaviors for cooperative skills
  • Structure for positive interdependence and individual accountability

Jigsaw

Goal: To develop skills in using Jigsaw in the classroom.

Objectives: Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Reorganize the underlying principles and goals of Jigsaw
  • Determine materials appropriate for Jigsaw
  • Develop appropriate reading materials for a Jigsaw activity
  • Set up a Jigsaw activity

Lesson Planning

Goal: To develop skills in planning a cooperative learning lesson for the classroom.

  • Objectives: Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
  • Recognize the underlying principles of a cooperative learning lesson
  • Identify stages of a cooperative learning lesson
  • Develop activities for each key stage of a lesson
  • Write a lesson plan containing all stages
