
Organizing and Managing ABE Instruction, Session 1. Identifying Learners’ SkillsThis workshop provides an overview of evidence-based practice, including a model for instruction that includes administering a series of assessments, analyzing the assessment results, and providing a detailed academic prescription for improving academic gains for ABE learners. This workshop has several examples of free reading assessments to administer to ABE learners, including the Word Recognition Test (WRT) and the Word Meaning Test (WMT); however, this module does not contain extensive training on reading assessments and/or instructional strategies needed to teach adult literacy. GOAL AND OBJECTIVESGoalThe primary goal of Session 1 is to provide a model for identifying learners’ skills and areas for improvement in literacy, numeracy, and writing based on a series of evidence-based and informal assessments.
