About Online Courses

Welcome to online learning with CALPRO! In addition to face-to-face professional development workshops, CALPRO offers online professional development to adult education instructors and administrators working in programs funded by the California Department of Education.

Online professional development options include facilitated and self-directed online courses. Courses are accessed by logging in to CALPRO's Blackboard Web site.

This page provides an overview of online learning with CALPRO.

Facilitated Online Courses

CALPRO has converted nine of its face-to-face workshops into online courses and plans to make additional courses available in the future.

How do facilitated courses work?
  • Most facilitated CALPRO online courses are four weeks.
  • Participation in courses is required each week of course.
  • Complete assigned weekly activities at any time of the week.

To learn more about the structure of facilitated online courses, please read the Guide to Online Courses.

Self-Directed Online Courses

In addition to facilitated online courses, CALPRO offers self-directed online courses. No previous experience with Blackboard or online learning is necessary to take a self-directed course.

  • Self-directed courses are available year-round.
  • Courses have no facilitator or other participants to interact with.
  • Groups of educators may choose to collaborate with one or more colleague(s) at their site and work through a course together.
How do self-directed courses work?
  • Courses include an orientation to Blackboard
  • Average course completion time is 10-15 hours.
  • Registrants complete coursework independently, at their own pace.
  • Your course progress is not tracked by anyone.
  • Courses provide a wealth of practical information through PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, audio, and/or PDF files.
  • Courses include reflection questions and application activities.
