• Adult Education Research Conference
• Provides abstracts of papers presented at AERC since 1993 and full text of papers presented since 1997.
• Adult Higher Education Alliance/Archived Proceedings
• Site currently provides proceedings from the 1998-2001 conferences, but plans to offer proceedings beginning with the 1984 conference.
• Assessment Strategies and Reading Profiles: Research-Based Assessment Practices for the Adult Education Classroom
• This interactive site from National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) provides a diagnostic method to identify adult students' strengths and instructional needs by matching his or her scores on a number of reading sub-skills (phonemic awareness, word analysis - phonics, word recognition - sight words, reading rate, fluency, spelling, background knowledge, word meaning, comprehension) with 11 reading profiles derived from the Adult Reading Components Study (ARCS). The site also offers a mini-course in reading and assessment, a glossary, inventories, word lists and other resources.
• Canadian Association for the Study of Adult Education (CASAE)/L'Association Canadienne pour l'Etude de l'Education des Adultes (ACÉÉA)
• Site includes the full text of annual conference proceedings back to 1998 (17th), full text of the association's newsletter "The Learning Edge" (back to no. 1, 1997) and links to adult education Internet sites.
• Change Agent. Adult Education for Social Justice: News, Issues, and Ideas
• Published twice a year, this serial provides a "low-cost teaching resource that inspires and enables teachers and learners to make civic participation and social justice part of their teaching and learning. Each issue explores a different social justice topic through news articles, opinion pieces, classroom activities and lessons, poems, cartoons, interviews, project descriptions, and printed and web-based resources."
• Community Partnerships for Adult Learning
• A "site dedicated to facilitating the building of partnerships to improve the quality of adult education in the United States."
• Informal Education Homepage
• Supported by YMCA George Williams College in London, this page covers youth work, community development, lifelong learning as well as informal education. Site includes definitions of terms, foundation texts, biographies of key thinkers, bibliographies/links, descriptions of programs and hints for practitioners. Focus is on UK and Commonwealth programs, but other areas are covered as well.
• Information Network for Adult Education in Southeast Europe
• Site from the Institute for International Co-operation of the German Adult Education Association (IIZ/DVV) in Bonn, Germany, provides brief histories and overviews of the state of adult education in Albania, Bosnia/Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia and Yugoslavia.
• Online Tutoring E-Book (2000)
• This 9-chapter guide to teaching online was published by The Online Tutoring Skills Project in Scotland. Chapters cover: Learning Online, The Tutor's Role, Building an Online Learning Community, New Assessment Methods, Evaluation, Culture and Ethics, Institutional Support, Staff Development and Quality Assurance.
• Participation Trends and Patterns in Adult Education: 1991 to 1999. (2002)
• This report uses data from the 1991, 1995, and 1999 Adult Education Surveys of the National Household Education Surveys Program to examine participation rates in adult education over time.
• Practitioner Research as Staff Development: A Facilitator's Guide
• In practitioner research staff development, participants systematically conduct inquiry about their work and their students' learning, reflect on their findings, and make informed decisions about implementing changes in their practice and improving their program." This guide helps organizations and localities implement research and inquiry as part of their program improvement efforts.
• Questions and Answers on Adult Education
• "This site includes questions and answers on adult education that were written by students in the course 'Outline of Adult Education' at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto (OISE/UT)." Brief answers are given to 20 questions. There is also a link to History of Education: Selected Moments of the 20th Century which provides brief synopses of educational events in each decade of the 20th century.
• Standing Conference on University Teaching and Research in the Education of Adults (SCUTREA)
• SCUTREA's newsletter SCOOP (October 1999-present) and the full text of papers presented at the Standing Conference on University Teaching and Research in the Education of Adults (SCUTREA) are available through this site.

• Adult Education Teacher's Annotated Webliography
• Boston-based site reviews web sites in the areas of: Student and Teacher Resources, ESOL (ESL), Adult Secondary Education (GED/EDP), Project-based Learning, Adult Education Research, and Grants Information.
• Adult Literacy Core Curriculum
• An interactive website designed to enable teachers to search the literacy curriculum for the United Kingdom, investigate the links to appropriate guidance in Access for All and then save, store and/or print relevant sections in the notebook facility for use in learning plans, schemes of work or lesson plans.
• Exploring Adult Literacy (EAL)
• Peer reviewed electronic journal for "adult literacy practitioners in adult basic education, family literacy and workplace literacy." From the College Reading Association's Adult Learning Division (ALD). Volume 1 (1996/97) to present.
• National Adult Literacy Database/Full Text Documents
• This Canadian site includes full text reports, directories, articles and reviews. View recent additions or search items by date or alphabetically by title, author, keyword, subject, or publication date. There is also an advanced search capability. Many entries are specific to Canada, but general and U.S. subjects also appear.
• OTAN: The Outreach and Technical Assistance Network/Adult Education's Electronic Information Gateway California)
• Offers over 20,000 documents and databases of research and practice ideas to help teachers and administrators improve programs and instruction in adult education. The site also includes interactive features such as online bulletin boards and lists. Registration is required by free.
• SABES (System for Adult Basic Education Support)
• A Massachusetts-based comprehensive training and technical assistance initiative for literacy and ABE educators and programs. Site includes locally-produced curricula, training outlines and learner-generated material and links to other literacy-related sites.
• Shakespeare in Jail (Part 1) and (Part 2)
• Two articles from the Adult Literacy Resource Institute's All Write News discuss a course involving reading and viewing videos of Shakespearean plays with incarcerated women. Additional resources including other articles and curriculum materials may also be found on the Adult Literacy Resource Institute site.
• The Literacy List
• Full text is available on many of the "large collection of free Adult Basic Education and ESL/ESOL Web sites, electronic lists ("listservs"), and other internet resources for adult basic skills learners and teachers." This site is maintained by Dr. David Rosen of the SABES Regional Support Center.
• Uppingham Seminars
• Provides the full text reports and backround papers from annual seminars on education in the context of development.
• Web-Based Lesson Plans
• This collection of six lesson plans is a companion resource to The Adult Education Teacher's Annotated Webliography.
• WebPower
• Site by Susan Gaer provides guidance on developing web-based lesson plans for elementary to adult learners, especially English as a Second Language learners. Site includes lesson plans, handouts and links to useful resources.
• Women Leading Through Reading
• A community-based collaborative initiative (active 1995-2002) which primarily sponsored book discussion groups for women with lower-level reading skills. Site includes copies of the "Best Practices Book Group Training Manual" and "Resource List of Materials".

• Australian Vocational Education and Training Research Association (AVETRA)
• Conference Archives includes ordering information from the 1998 (1st), and papers from the 1999 (2nd) conference forward.
• Conference Proceedings, 1985-
• Collection of papers maintained by the Small Business Advancement National Center at the University of Central Arkansas. Topics include business and entrepreneurship education and human resources development.
• DECA Lesson Plans
• Lesson plans covering different aspects of marketing from Virginia DECA.
• Education World/Vocational Education Center
• Includes articles, web site reviews and lesson plans for both career exploration and specific vocations.
• Home Economics Archive - Research, Tradition, History (HEARTH)
• HEARTH is a core electronic collection of books and journals in Home Economics and related disciplines published between 1850 and 1950. In addition to the full text, the site includes essays and bibliographies about applied arts, child development and family studies, clothing & textiles, food & nutrition, institutional management, retail & consumer studies, and teaching & communication.
• Life Skills For Vocational Success
• Intended for educators, counselors, job coaches, and other professionals, this site includes over 60 lesson plans to teach people life skills, links to other rehabilitation and disability related sites and links to companies that sell life skills training materials. Skills covered are: social skills, decision-making skills, employability, money management, transportation, health, family responsibilities, basic understanding of the law, and telephone skills.
• Promoting New Seals Of Endorsements In Career Technical Education (2002)
• This paper explores "whether it is feasible to construct a new approach for developing a national network of educators and employers representatives to jointly develop course content driven by assessments" in order to ensure credible, high-quality credentials in career and technical education.

• The Career Key: A Free Public Service to Help People Make Sound Career Decisions
• Online career inventory links Holland personality types to the Occupational Outlook Handbook. Site discusses employability skills and provides additional resources. Authored by Dr. Lawrence K. Jones, a professor emeritus of the College of Education at North Carolina State University.
• Entertainment Careers
• Sponsored by the City of Los Angele, this site provides information about careers in the behind-the-scenes aspects of the entertainment business (such as post-production and business).
• Guide to the Mentor Program Listings
• Directory of mentor programs in the U.S. and Canada with contact information. Covers business and education mentoring at all levels.
• KAPOW (Kids and the Power of Work)
• A program of the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC), the KAPOW "curriculum focuses on career exploration and SCANS skills. Lesson topics include Job and Career Awareness, SelfAwareness, Positive Work Habits, Teamwork, Overcoming Bias and Stereotype, Communication, and Decision Making."
• Role Model Project for Girls
• Offers a Role Model Registry (an "examples" sampler of women professionals in a wide range of non-traditional careers) and links to a variety of reference and resources.
• Updated Shortcuts to Career Development Resources for Girls and Women (2003)
• This guide of print and online resources, sensitive to the career development needs of girls and women, resulted from a partnership between ACTEW (A Commitment to Training and Employment for Women) and the Ontario Women’s Directorate." In addition to resources for self-evaluation, knowing the labor market, and taking action, this guide includes sections covering women in science, technology, trades, business and entrepreneurship, and French language materials.
• Surfing for Work in British Columbia: An Online Tutorial for Work Seekers
• Although developed for British Columbia, this tutorial has information that would be of interest to any job seeker.

• Community Empowerment: Methods to Strengthen Communities
• Training materials for community workers in the field. Material is intended "for practical training and is not intended to be academic nor is it highly technical." Site includes “policy, strategies, methodology, curriculum, management and planning material useful to teams initiating or upgrading any community empowerment or development programme.” Subjects include “poverty reduction, gender strategy, facilitation, income generation, capacity development, monitoring, brain storm, community participation, social animation, learning an oral language, and empowerment.” Information also available in French and Spanish. Some portions of the site are also available in Russian and Portuguese.
• Enterprise Resource Database (ERD)
• Produced by the Enterprise Foundation, the "Enterprise Resource Database (ERD) is a comprehensive, online collection of tools and resources that help community development practitioners in a wide range of efforts. Formerly known as the Best Practices Database, ERD provides more than 1,000 items offering practical, step-by-step, "how-to" information and techniques". The database covers issues such as workforce development, community building, housing, finance, community safety, planning and development, child care, and management and organizational development.

• America's Literacy Directory
• Searchable directory from the National Institute for Literacy to programs for adults/young adults and children, programs for people with learning disabilities and volunteer opportunities.
• Canadian Literacy Thesaurus/Thésaurus canadien d'alphabétisation
• A bilingual (English/French) list of standardized vocabulary in the area of adult literacy reflecting the diversity of practice across Canada.
• Directory of Adult Education Colleagues
• Searchable directory of members of the Commission of Professors of Adult Education (CPAE).
• EdResearch Online
• EdResearch is a searchable web database. It includes 6,000 records from the Australian Education Index, covering all educational sectors. Full text is available for a fee.
• EducatiON-LINE
• A a freely accessible database of the full text of conference papers, working papers and electronic literature which supports educational research, policy and practice. Also see conference Programmes and Listings Service, the British Education Index and Internet Resource Catalogue.
• E-Learning Glossary
• From the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD), this glossary is updated periodically and reviewed by e-learning experts.
• Glossary of Adult Learning in Europe (1999)
• Provides essential knowledge and basic terminology in the area of lifelong learning as used in European nations.
• Glossary of Australian Vocational Education and Training Terms (2000)
• A “compilation of terms (including abbreviations) likely to be found in the recent literature of Australian vocational education and training (VET) research and policy.”
• Guide to ABE in Graduate Programs (1999)
• This guide is designed to assist individuals interested in pursuing graduate study in Adult Basic Education (ABE) or a related field and is a snap-shot of ABE in graduate programs existing in the United States in 1999-2000.
• Principles and Principals: A Dictionary of Contemporary Adult Education Terms and Their Users.
• Copyright © 2001 by Bernadine W. Raiskums. This book is intended to be a handy, inexpensive, specialized tool for North Americans entering adult education graduate programs. It may also serve to introduce adult education language to individuals interested in the field. Definitions were composed following a review of literature and online dictionaries and encyclopedias, with review and comment by presenters and participants at the 2000 Adult Education Research Conference. • Intergovernmental organization created by Commonwealth Heads of Government to encourage the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies. The site includes full text start-up and operational guides, teaching resources, research reports and multimedia (RealPlayer/Windows Media streaming video) presentations.
• Distance Education: A Consumer's Guide
• Guide from the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications provides information for distance learners including information about accreditation for those who are trying to evaluate and choose an appropriate distance education program.
• United States Distance Learning Association/Publications page
• Includes full text of the refereed USDLA Journal from December 1999 to the present.

• International Conference on Lifelong Learning: Policy, Practice and Possibility
• Full text of abstracts and some papers from this July 9-11, 1999 conference.
• Lifelong Learning: A Pilot Resource Base of Current European Research
• A CEDEFOP (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training) project on lifelong learning, with a focus on challenges for vocational education and training. This pilot site provides links to selected web sites, individual research/conference papers and related resource bases.
• New Approaches to Lifelong Learning (NALL)
• Housed at the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), NALL (funded from 1996-2001) was a Canadian national research network charged to "study informal learning and its relation to formal and continuing education throughout the life course." Numerous working papers and other documents are available on this site. A successor to NALL, the Work and Lifelong Learning Research Network (WALL) has been funded for 2002-2006.
• New Horizons for Learning/Lifelong Learning
• New Horizons for Learning has "identified, communicated, and helped to implement successful educational strategies" since 1980. The Lifelong Learning page includes areas on early childhood/parenting, learning in adolescence, higher education, learning in the workplace and learning in the senior years.

• A section of the Community Intelligence Labs site that discusses workplace organization and worker development in the context of knowledge management and the new structure of work.

• As part of Pennsylvania's effort to promote basic skills and adult literacy, this site offers workplace competency information for educators/trainers, employers and workers.

• This Dublin-based site "exists to share information and resources about social inclusion, ICT [information and communication technology] and sustainable employment. The network is non-profit and open to anyone working in this area." Includes links to publications and projects published in English from United Kingdom, European Union and United States sources.

• Links to papers on literacy, especially workplace literacy, and education. Includes links to related gopher archives.

• This publication from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Center for Workforce Preparation, "for distribution to local chambers of commerce ... describes the nature of the literacy problem in America, how it impacts local businesses and industries, and what communities can do to increase local efforts aimed at improving the literacy skills of adults." The toolkit includes a guide, posters, case studies, a sample presentation and other resources on workforce literacy.

• A new test of workplace essential skills being developed in Canada. “The TOWES project now has a bank of test items which, collectively, form an assessment tool to measure essential skills in workplace settings.” Test also available in French.
