Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education
Baldwin Park Unified School District
Older Adults Program

The Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education (BPACE) Older Adult Program offers lifelong learning in a variety of educational settings. Administrative and district staff, as well as community leaders, work together to meet the needs of older adult students. Instruction is meaningful, functional, and transferable outside the classroom. Staff effectively use surveys to conduct assessment and goal-setting. The program has counseling services available for students. The program is marked by its strong community outreach and recruitment. Students design flyers for the program in computer class and then visit local businesses to promote the program. Students in the program are also engaged in civic participation, taking part in ongoing efforts such as volunteering at a community garden or a local hospital, interacting with city government, and participating in cultural events such as Chinese New Year. The program uses certificates and reflective journals to track learner accomplishments. Professional development of the staff is a priority, and the program requires and pays staff to participate in professional development activities. Site based professional development includes providing staff members with research articles to read and discuss.
